You may not be familiar with her name, but millions of young fans love her music. (She has more than 30 million Twitter followers.) However, what singer Ariana Grande was just caught on camera doing and saying about America may cause some to wonder how the Grammy-nominated artist could make such shocking comments about the people and the country that have given the 22-year-old performer the opportunity to become rich and famous.

The Blaze reports that the celebrity-gossip website TMZ has obtained and shared what appears to be surveillance footage from a bakery or doughnut shop.

In the clip, Grande can be seen licking a doughnut on a tray on the counter. The young man with her, said to be a dancer in her stage show, then appears to grab his own quick tongue-touch of an unsold sweet treat. The two giggle and kiss. Then the footage shows something really interesting, beyond the shenanigans.

When a worker in the shop brings out and puts on display a tray of larger goodies, the young singer blurts out…well…insults that many if not most Americans would find offensive. You can see for yourself how disrespectful Ariana Grande was by clicking on the video above.

After the brouhaha that arose because of the shocking comments about America and Americans, the singer tried to calm the storm that blew up by saying her words were taken out of context. Fox News reports that the pop star provided a statement to FOX411, explaining she was reacting to the potential of those over-sized doughnuts to make kids fat.

“I am EXTREMELY proud to be an American and I’ve always made it clear that I love my country (sic),” Grande told FOX411 in a statement. “What I said in a private moment with my friend, who was buying the donuts, was taken out of context and I am sorry for not using more discretion with my choice of words.”

The 22-year-old explained she was frustrated by “how freely we as Americans eat and consume things without giving any thought to the consequences that it has on our health.” She admitted that she should have “known better in how [she] expressed [herself],” but seeing the doughnuts reminded her that the “United States has the highest child obesity rate in the world.”

“We need to do more to educate ourselves and our children about the dangers of overeating and the poison that we put into our bodies,” she added.

Okay, fine, but one can’t help but wonder — if Ms. Grande was truly so concerned about “child obesity” and, presumably, setting a good example for her millions of young fans — then why was she in a doughnut shop in the first place?
